On the 4th of February, 2024, a big scale walk was organized in collaboration with the Diaspora Party as part of the project Bloedsuiker: Een Bewogen Geschiedenis - Geschiedenis in Beweging .
The overall project is an exploration of innovative strategies for diabetes prevention and reduction,
integrating community engagement and political and cultural advocacy, in particular within
Surinamese and Dutch-Surinamese communities. This entails the development of interdisciplinary methodologies on the spot and ad hoc
strategies, in order to face the complexities of issues like diabetes, especially in countries
situated in the global South where replicating effective Western solutions is not only impractical
but also impossible as these are deemed unaffordable even for Western countries themselves.
The project facilitates community-up initiatives between the Netherlands and Suriname, in co-organization with Frank Kanhai and the Bas van de Goor Foundation, and it collaborates with local organizations.
The project garnered enthusiastic responses from politicians and public figures, including President Chan Santokhi.
